Deacon Winslo Douglas, 78, of Greensboro, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on September 11, 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born June 3, 1947, in Laurinburg, NC, to the late Tom Terry and Grace Gee. He was raised by his Grandmother Sue Douglas. His brother Wille Douglas and sisters Vernell Gee (deceased) and Johnette Gee all were a big part of his life. Winslo lived a full life defined by faith, family, service, and community.
At the age of 12 Winslo confessed Christ and was baptized at Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He was an outstanding Sunday School Scholar, choir member and Church Training Union participant. Winslo received his formal education in the Scotland County School System located in Laurinburg, N.C. graduating from I. Ellis Johnson High School in 1965 with honors. After high school Winslo joined the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War.
A proud graduate of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, he earned a B.S. in Business Administration and Master's in Systems Analysis in 1984. Following his service, he built a successful career as a systems engineer with NCR, where he retired after many years of dedicated work.
On June 28, 1969, Winslo married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Douglas (deceased). Together, they shared 53 years of marriage before Joyce's passing on October 3, 2022. Their union was a true partnership filled with love, devotion, and faith. In retirement, they cherished time spent visiting family and friends and often returned to their roots in Laurinburg.
Winslo and Joyce joined United Institutional Baptist Church in 1974, where they faithfully served on the Deacon Board for over 30 years. Their lives were a testament to service, as they consistently put others before themselves. He served for several years as Superintendent of the Youth Sunday School, Ward Leader, men's choir and ushering board. "Winslo was a protector" (Cynthia Leake), he cared passionately about his faith and family. Winslo was the voice for his family and did not mind letting you know that he was in the room.
Winslo also gave back to his community as a youth baseball coach, member of the NAACP, and president of his neighborhood HOA. He loved playing golf, supporting his beloved Aggies during football season, and most of all, spending time with his aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his four sons: Winslo Douglas II, Kenneth Douglas, Marques Douglas (Sparkle Douglas), and Christopher Douglas; Wille Douglas (brother), Johnette Gee (sister) Cynthia Leake (niece); and eleven cherished grandchildren: Dorian Kirkwood, Kaiya Douglas, Zahra Douglas, Christopher Austin Douglas, Chase Douglas, Cadence Douglas, Caitlyn Douglas, Brice Douglas, Knox Douglas, Hollis Douglas, and Jace Douglas. He is also survived by a host of cousins and lifelong friends.
Winslo's life was one of love, faith, and service. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.
