Obituary

Willie Lewis Jackson, Sr. was born July 6, 1950 in Turin (Coweta County), GA to the late Lurline and Willie Albert Jackson, Sr. He was called to his eternal rest on September 22, 2018. "Bumper Jack" as he was affectionately known, spent his formative years in Newnan, GA with his nine siblings. He graduated from East Coweta High School in Senoia, GA where he was actively involved in Industrial Arts, playing football and was the manager of the basketball, baseball and track teams. "Bumper Jack" started his career in the concrete industry with Bishop Martin while living in Georgia. He moved to Greensboro, NC and continued his work as a concrete finisher with Norris Construction. During this time, he met the "Honey Dew" of his life, Yvonne DeCarroll Miller, when she was working at her father's store, Community Grocery. They were married on December 11, 1976 and relocated to Knoxville, TN. To this union was born two sons, Willie Lewis Jackson, Jr. and Brian Keith Jackson. The family returned to North Carolina in 1989 to be closer to family and pursue better job opportunities. "Bumper Jack" became employed as a concrete finisher with Cox and Evans Cement Contractors in Winston-Salem, NC and remained there for many years until his retirement in 2012. In his leisure time, "Bumper Jack" enjoyed playing billiards and accepted any challenge to a game. He won many trophies for his exceptional skills at the game. He loved to talk politics to anyone that would engage him in a conversation and had very passionate views about current events. His favorite baseball team was the Atlanta Braves, whether they won or lost. Most of all, his favorite pastime was spending time with the apple of his eye, his grandbaby Morgan. "Anything Morgan" was his mantra. Willie was preceded in death by his parents and brother Hubert "Buster" Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 41 years, Yvonne; three sons, Willie Lewis (Tiffani) Jackson (Charlotte, NC), Brian Keith Jackson (Dallas, TX) and Atari McNabb (Knoxville, TN); three grandchildren, Morgan Yvonne Jackson, Cariah Roberts and Atari McNabb Jr.; brothers Charles Jackson, Calvin (Sophia) Jackson, Lawyer C. Jackson, Willie Albert Jackson, Walter Lee Jackson, Steven (Jean) Jackson; sisters Bettina Maynard, Sharon Maynard; a special Aunt "Newt"; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A service honoring his life will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E. Market St. Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 noon.The interment will take place following the service at Maplewood Cemetery; 235 Bingham St. Greensboro, NC.
