Willie Gibson, Jr. of 1207 Bilbro Street, Greensboro, died Tuesday May 26, 2015 at his home. He was born in Greensboro on July 29, 1940 to the late Willie Gibson and Dorothy L. Williams. After graduating from James B. Dudley High School, Willie worked for several years until he sought a career change. Upon passing the Civil Service Exam, he became a federal employee of the U.S. Postal Service where he remained for almost 38 years until his retirement in 2001. Willie was a life-long member of Shiloh Baptist Church, serving in numerous capacities including Trustee, Cub Scouts Leader and Seasoned Saints. He also served on the Finance Committee and led Men's Bible Class. A tireless community activist, he helped lead the fight to save historic J.C. Price School. Willie was a 33rd dedicated Past Master of St. John's Lodge #12, Past Grand Lecturer of MWPHGL of NC; Past Commander-in-Chief of Greensboro Consistory #106 and Past Potentate Khalif Temple #144. He held numerous offices over his more than 50 years of masonic service including current Worshipful Master and was elected to his 4th term as master of St. John's Lodge #12. He was also presented with the Honorary Past Grand Master's degree of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of NC. He was the youngest Worshipful Master in the Grand Lodge of NC at the time of his first installation. Willie is survived by his three children, LaVondia Gibson of Stockbridge, GA; Gina Gibson of Stockbridge, GA and Willie Gibson III (Nicole) of Greensboro, NC.; his mother, Dorothy L. Williams of Charlotte, NC and six brothers: John Gibson of Rainer, MD; Ronnie L. Williams (Paulette) of Washington, DC; Robert L. Williams of Wilmington, NC; Bernard Williams (Laverne) of Smyrna, GA; Burnell Lott (Colette) of Charlotte, NC and Julius L. Lott of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren; five nieces; six nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his late sister Barbara Jean Williams of Greensboro, NC.
