Tuesday, September 13, 2011Twelve Oâ??clock Noon Providence Baptist Church 1106 Tuscaloosa Street Greensboro, North Carolina Reverend Dr. Howard Allen Chubbs, Officiating~Reflections~William Nelson, was born on February 9, 1919 in Nepton, Kentucky. He was the son of the late William Horace and Hannah Nelson.He had two sisters, Millie Nelson and Addie Nelson Shelby, and one brother, Alvin Burns, who all preceded him in death.Mr. Nelson attended public school in Nepton and after high school he entered the United State Army in 1941, serving in World War II. He was wounded in the conflict and received an honorable discharge.In 1943 he married Hattye Evelyn London and to this union one son, William H. Nelson and two daughters, Rhonda Hemingway and Marketia Duncan were born. He has one step-daughter, Sitrena McLendon.Mr. Nelson worked several years in maintenance at Bennett College and the United State Post Office. He retired from the Maintenance Services Department at Sears & Roebuck after forty years.He was an avid hunter and fisherman and after his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed group bus tours throughout the country. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and attended regularly until his health began to decline.Left to cherish his memory are his children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; nephews; nieces and friends.
