William Howard Courtney of Greensboro, NC, went home to his heavenly Father on December 29, 2016. William entered this life in October 1947 in Winter Haven, Florida. He was the fifth child born to the late Arthur and Ola Courtney. He attended Jewett High School of Winter Haven, FL, graduating in the class of 1965 with honors. He graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1969 earning a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technology. William was employed for over 30 years as a technician and subsequently plant supervisor at Guilford Mills, Inc. on West Market Street in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. William was an avid hunter belonging to several hunting clubs in the Guilford and Caswell County area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Sara L. Courtney, Eddie Jean Robinson, Alene Herron and brother--Arthur Courtney, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory two devoted daughters: Angela Courtney and Victoria Courtney both of Greensboro, North Carolina; one son, Reggie (Maretta) Ross; five beloved grandchildren; three sisters: Ann (Willie) Washington of Avon Park, Florida; Beverly (Willie) Faniel of Winter Haven, Florida; Chenita Johnson of Palm Coast, Florida and four brothers: Robin Courtney (Brenda) of Daytona Beach, Florida; Samuel (Barbara) Courtney of Lake Wales, Florida; Ivan Courtney of Winter Haven, Florida and Vinson (Karen) Courtney of Brown Summit, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. A home going memorial celebration of William's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4th at New Millennium Christian Center located at 8 Dundas Circle, Greensboro, NC 27407 (www.nccenter.com, 336-510-0578). The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Moses Cone Cancer Center, friends who helped him at Coley-Jenkins Independent Living Center, Guilford Health Center and Beacon Place of Greensboro, NC. Cards and condolences may be sent to The Courtney Family at 3704 Cotswold Terrace #2D, Greensboro, NC 27410. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to New Millennium Christian Center Outreach Ministry in William's honor.
