Gilmer, was born September 12, 1939 to the late Wade Gilmer and Mary Louise Webster Gilmer. On March 5, 2012 he was called unto eternal rest.Walter attended Florence Elementary School in his early years and Immanuel Lutheran College (boarding school) in his high school years. After high school he served in the United States Army, and told numerous stories of his time in the military. He was employed by Meredith Swimming Pools for thirty (30) years designing and building swimming pools. Later, he worked at Circuit City and Piedmont International Airport before his retirement in 2000. Walter leaves to cherish his memory: wife of forty-five (45) years, Dinnah Morrison Gilmer; sisters: Olive Bernice Jenkins and Nancy Penny; children: Cecil, Marcus, Donald (Aileen), Tara (Charles), Everett, and Tonya Bates Davis; grandchildren: Brandon, Nikki, DeAngelia, Shaquan, Shaqueena, Walter, Courtney, Kasey, Christian, Cody, Donan, Jailene, Taylor, Nemesy, Breanna, Aric; thirteen (13) great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
