Obituary

Virginia Edwards Williams, beloved mother and grandmother, departed this life with her hand in God's on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, in Summerfield, NC after an extended illness. Services will be 11:00 am on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at St. Phillip's Episcopal Church, 2900 Hanes Avenue, Richmond, Virginia, with the Manning Funeral Home directing. A day long public viewing will be Wednesday, February 18th, at Manning Funeral Home located at 700 North 25th Street, Richmond, VA. The youngest of fourteen children, Virginia, was born in Capron (Hampton County), VA to the late James and Pattie Lee Jackson Edwards on December 2, 1922. She moved to Richmond's Jackson Ward at a young age, attended Richmond Public Schools, the last of which was Maggie L. Walker High School. She joined St. Phillip's Episcopal Church in 1942 and remained a member until her death. Mrs. Williams retired from the Virginia State Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board after thirty years of dedicated service. Fourteen years, as an Elevator Operator, and sixteen years, as a Clerk. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and singing. In 2007, she relocated to Summerfield, NC to reside with her daughter and son-in-law. Her love for family was uncompromising. Preceding her in death were her parents, all thirteen siblings, and husband of 58 years, Willie D. Williams. Cherishing her memory are, two devoted daughters, Barbara Williams (Al) Johnson of Summerfield, NC, Carolyn Wooldridge Jacobs, and son, Arrelius Pleasant, both of Richmond; four grandchildren, Sheryl Hughes (Reginald) Mosley, Rochelle Muse, James Wallace, Jr., and Jocelynn Jacobs; three great-grandchildren, Regena Mosley, James Wallace, and Julian Mosley; and a faithful niece, Yvonne Mayo Brunson, who was like a daughter. Beautiful memories are also shared by a host of relatives and special friends.
