Violet Lee (Patty) Miller was born February 17, 1935 in Guilford NC to James and Ruth Gilreath Miller and departed this life on December 29, 2019 at the age of 84. She was nicknamed 'Patty' by her maternal grandmother because of their love of playing the game of patty cake together. She was preceded in death by both parents and her three older siblings, Willie M. Hayes, Howard T. Miller and Ann L. Chavis. She was the fourth of seven children and spent her formative years attending Woodyside and Florence Elementary Schools and James B. Dudley High School. Patty dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Raleigh Crossroads United Methodist Church where she was a faithful church member until her health began to fail. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, sang with both the church choir and the K.L. Norman Mixed Chorus and was a force to be reckoned with as a cook and server for church functions. Patty was married to the love of her life, Elbert C. Hickman, on April 27, 1956, a union that spanned 63 years. She was mother to one son, Victor E. Hickman. She retired from Proctor and Gamble after 20 plus years of employment. Those left to cherish her memories are: her husband, Elbert Hickman; son, Victor Hickman (Sutonia) and grandson, Tyler R. Hickman, Burlington, NC; two sisters, Alice M. Jessup, Hampton,VA and Alberta L Walker, Raleigh, NC; one brother, Freddy F. Richardson (Sylvia), Greensboro, NC, and a host of relatives and friends. All will remember her soft-spoken nature and pray for her eternal peace. A service honoring her life will be held on Monday January 6, 2020 at Raleigh's Crossroads United Methodist Church; 715 Guilford College Rd. Greensboro, NC. Visitation will begin at 11:30am with service following at 12pm. Internment will be at Raleigh's Crossroads United Methodist Church Cemetery.
