Obituary

Vernard N. Dillard, Jr. passed away peacefully, early morning on November 16, 2022, surrounded by family and friends at the age of 56. He was born on October 15, 1966, in Winston Salem, NC to Vernard N. Dillard, Sr., and the late Vivian Autrey Dillard. Vernard was a graduate of North Forsyth High School in 1984, where he was an exceptional football player. After high school, he went on to play football on the offensive line at Winston Salem State University, where he was captain of the championship teams in 1987 & 1988 and selected to the CIAA All Conference in 1986 and 1987. Vernard graduated from WSSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He was inducted into Clarence (Big House) Gaines Hall of Fame in 2019. After college and two seasons with Charlotte Barons, Minor League Football System, he worked for Mecklenburg County Juvenile Division, Guilford County Sheriff's Department, Alamance County Sheriff's Department, Allied Universal Security and Co-Founder of Robin's Cleaning Services, LLC.

Vernard was kind-hearted, loving, and generous in helping those in need. He devoted his life to IDMR Bible Study Class and his family. He was an avid reader, lover of jazz music and had a deep affection for the WSSU Rams and the San Francisco 49ers. He deeply loved his family, including all his beautiful extended families, nephews, nieces, cousins, football buddies, and friends.

Vernard had a zest for life no one could measure. He was instrumental in developing and launching, Dillard Elite Training, LLC. He fought the good fight until the very end. His most profound quote to his sons was "Keep the main thing, the main thing." Vernard will be forever remembered by a large extended family who loves him dearly and all he accomplished in his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian A. Dillard; grandmother, Annie Mae Beal; mother-in-law, Patricia Graves Bynum; special aunts, Hazel Black, Betty Dillard, and Elizabeth Speight.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Robin Bynum-Dillard; his children who he loved dearly, Reginald (Reggie and daughter-in-law, Stacia Dillard) and William (Will and girl friend, Kacey Baker); a granddaughter, Jordyn Jade Dillard (5 months old); father, Vernard N. Dillard Sr.; brother, Dedrick (Ricky) Dillard (sister-in-law, Amber Dillard); sister, Monica Dillard Roberts (brother-in-law, Leantwon Roberts); nephews, Terrence Dillard, Rashaad Roberts, Brayton Buie, and Jayden Dillard; nieces, Makaila Roberts, and Kaylan Dillard; Father-in-Law, Fletcher L. Bynum Jr. (Dallasine); uncles, Frank Beal, and Rahman Allah Anderson (Barbara); aunts, Hattie Anderson, Mary Mims, Marion Miles, Hester Bynum, Delois Bynum; brother-in-law, Dennis L. Bynum; sisters-in-law, Dr. Yvette Bynum Wilson, (Venturi and Emory Wilson) and Wendy Bynum Howard (Sylvester), (Chloe and Chandler Howard).

A service honoring his life will be held Sunday, November 20, 2022 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E. Market St. Greensboro, NC 27401. The Funeral service will begin at 2pm. Visitation 1:30pm.
