The Reverend Thomas Maurice Huntley, affectionately called "Maurice", was born in Greensboro, North Carolina to Vernon Willie Huntley and Olivia Simon Huntley on April 26, 1954. He peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on October 28, 2017 at Guilford Health Care Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Maurice attended local schools and graduated from Walter Hines Page High School in 1972. He was proud to be a Pirate. Maurice was known for his matter of fact disposition, his distinguished walk, his sense of humor, his generous spirit and his intelligence, gracing the honor roll all of his middle school and high school years. Throughout the years he participated as an HR Officer, in Student Council, Student Affairs, Choir, Football, Basketball, Cross Country and many other school organizations, but Maurice excelled immensely in track. He ran and set records in his years at Page High School that remain unbroken to this date. He earned a full scholarship to East Carolina University for his excellence in track. While attending ECU, Maurice became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. While earning his undergraduate degree, Maurice was honored to serve as the National Chaplin for the fraternity. He also completed his United Methodist student internship at St Matthew UMC in Greensboro, NC. Upon graduation from East Carolina University in 1976, he was ordained into the United Methodist Church Ministry and a full time minister at Holmes Grove United Methodist Church (High Point). While remaining a full time minister, Maurice entered into Duke Divinity School where he ultimately was awarded his Masters in Divinity. Maurice pastored a host of churches including St. Andrew's UMC (Winston-Salem), Memorial UMC (High Point), St. Stephen's UMC (Lexington) & Brooks Memorial (Midway). Maurice was known as a dynamic speaker and loyal in his faith. He continued his faithful journey as a United Methodist minister until his health began to decline due to his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. His prognosis to live was three years in 1980; however his determination to defy the odds and his trust in God made his fight last almost 40 years. He remained a devout minister up until his passing. Maurice is now reunited with his father, Vernon Willie Huntley. Those left to cherish his loving memories are his beloved Mother, Olivia S. Huntley; One Cherished Daughter, Tamica H. Smith and Son-In-Law, Rico M. Smith; Three Grandsons, Rico M. Smith, Jr, Rico M. Smith, III & Nasir M. Smith; Three Granddaughters, Shaqkera Q. Smith, NaKyla A.M. Comer & R'Eyona M.
