Obituary

Thelma McEachirn Walker passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2026, surrounded by her daughters’ love. She was 88.

Mom was born July 11, 1938 in Greenwood, SC to Mary Elizabeth Shephard McEachirn and Alexander McEachirn, Sr. who preceded her in death along with her three siblings, Mary Frances Lindsay, Alvernser McEachirn, and Alexander McEachirn, Jr. She was also preceded in death by three children, Darryl J. McEachirn, Paul Walker, Jr., and Robin Ann Walker.

Shortly after graduating from James B. Dudley High School (class of ’56), mom married the late Paul Walker, Sr. She went on to graduate from North Carolina A&T State University with a B.S. degree in English Education and Speech and Hearing. She worked in the Reidsville City Schools for many years as an English Teacher and Speech Therapist, but later found her true love and calling as a baby nurse.

Mom loved God with all of her heart, soul, and mind. She lived by faith and taught it by the life she lived. She was an incredible mother who was fully involved in the lives of all her children; fiercely protecting, tirelessly and sacrificially providing, and always creating; SHE was the mother of invention.

Mom’s legacy of love will be continued and remembered by three daughters, Vickie L. Walker, Greensboro, NC, Linda Walker Ward (LaShaun), High Point, NC, and Dyane Walker Barrientos (Carlos), Charlotte, NC and a very special nephew, (whom she referred to as her little boy), Gregory Alvernser Johnson. She is also survived by granddaughters Cheryl D. Green (Jordan), Latia Ward and Ashley McEachirn, and two great-granddaughters, Amybell Green and Delaney Green. Mom is also survived by her “Five –K’s” nephews and niece, sister-in-law & best friend, Shirley McEachirn, and special niece Tijuana Faulks.

The family would like to thank AuthoraCare Collective of Greensboro for the wonderful care they gave Mom and the incredible support they provided for her daughters.

A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 1301 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro, NC 27406. The visitation will begin at 11:00am with service following at 11:30am. Interment will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park.
