Saturday, December 1, 2012 1:00 p.m.Saint Paul The ApostleCatholic Church2715 Horse Pen Creek Road Greensboro, North Carolina ObituaryDr. Shirleyanne Elizabeth Haye was joyfully lifted to heaven at sunrise on Saturday, November 24, 2012in Greensboro, NC at the age of 58.Shirleyanne will be remembered for the joy, encourage- ment, support, teaching and love that enriched the livesof her family, friends, co-workers and the communityat large.Shirleyanne was the loving and devoted wife of JoffreH. Baron. They met while she was attending Howard University and shared 29 wonderful years together. She was the mother of Javar Baron (20) and Saundra Baron (18), who were the center of her life. She was actively involved in her childrenâ??s soccer and basketball associations both in Greensboro and Rochester. Even when Shirleyanne was sick, she went the extra mile to support them and the other children on the team. She also shared two sons, Chevron Clarke and Kester Baron with her sister Cleopatra Clarke and her brother-in-law Frank Baron. Shirleyanne was born in Trinidad and Tobago to Alfredand Dorrie Haye, and throughout her life, she maintaineda loving, giving, caring relationship with her parents, siblings and their families. She wanted family to be there for each other in all things and at all times, and often served the roles of encourager, counselor, motivator and peacemaker to sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Shirleyanne loved to give back, not only to the family, but to the community as well. She instituted programsat Kodak for educating minority students, assumed leadership roles in the Caribbean Association, and participated in the United Way Campaigns in the cities in which she lived. She was a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the National Organization for the Advancement of Black Chemist and Chemical Engineers. She earned a Ph.D. in Bioinorganic Chemistry at Howard University in 1989 and began her career as Principal Research Scientist at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY, where she spearheaded multiple photographic technologies and obtained 30 US patents.In 2003, she received the Distinguished Inventors Awardat Kodak. She moved to Greensboro, NC in 2005 to assume the position of Senior Research Chemist at Lorlliard Tobacco Company where she worked until her passing. Her coworkers describe her as a wonderful listener, very intelligent, caring, strong, courageous, well-liked and respected.Shirleyanne was preceded in death by her parents. Shirleyanne is survived by her husband, Joffre H. Baron; two children, Javar and Saundra Baron; brothers and sisters, Cynthia, Leroy (Merle), Lyris (Victor Graham), Cleopatra, Lennox (Gina), Carl, Jocelyn, Hollis (Cynthia), Mavis, and Ingrid; special nephews, Chevron Clarke (Gina) and Kester Baron; and many other nieces, nephews,cousins, friends, and relatives.
