In the true spirit of the strong-willed man he was, Sezzie Cornelius Love was at the 1-yard line and he ran his final touchdown into the hands of the Lord on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 10:35 a.m. Cheering from the side lines of his hospice bedside were his two daughters, Nichole and Brandi.
Sezzie C. Love, better known as "Ca-Neil" by most family and friends, started this game called life on August 16, 1957. He was born to the late Bruce and Effie Love in Morven, NC. He was the fourth to be born out of five. He was the only boy born to this blessed union and the girls never let him forget it.
He received his childhood education in Greensboro, NC. Upon entering Kiser Junior High School, after his natural talent in the sport of football at Windsor Center was recognized and cultivated, he became a star athlete. He received multiple awards of special recognition for his excellent work in track and field, wrestling and football. His athletic excellence continued as he matriculated through high school at Grimsley High School. He received numerous awards to include high placements in the Junior Olympics, trophies, medals and athlete of the year – the coveted GHS award. Upon graduating from Grimsley High School he furthered his education on a wrestling scholarship at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Aggie Pride!
He began his career at Cone Mills where he was employed for 10 years. Following his tenure at Cone Mills he went on to work for GATX, formerly known as Lentz, where he dedicated 20+ years of service. This hardworking and dedicated employee always found time to include family and his many things he enjoyed. Is that an engine I hear? It must be time for the race track. Sezzie loved to tinker around with cars and watch the cars go around the track. Cowboys?! He was never more excited and enthused to watch a game as when Dem Boyz were playing! Let's not forget about the Tarheels. He never missed an opportunity to bait his friends and family into a friendly argument over who would win. He had no problems calling Theresa, Priscilla, Dougie or Lamont to get them riled up. Most of all he loved to tell stories about the old days. Telling lengthy and funny stories about old childhood memories, football games, you name it he had a story to tell.
Sezzie stayed busy. He loved helping people, if he wasn't at church singing with the male chorus, driving the church van, teaching Sunday School, he was mowing lawns, cooking for the high school football games, (deep frying fish and grilling sausage dogs), this former Sunday School Secretary at Reid Memorial CME Church was truly a servant.
Sezzie was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Love, his mother, Effie Love and his sister Gracie Lee Redfearn.
Amongst those left to cherish this family man's love and legacy are his daughters E. Nichole Love-Terry, Brandi S. Alston, his grandchildren Cierrah A. Love, Justin A. Terry, Brayden A. Terry, his siblings Lucy M. Parham and Theresa Love (Lloyd Malcom), both of Boston, MA, Priscilla A. Hariston of Greensboro, NC. Amongst all his sisters he found a brother, Neal "Lamont" Lane (Crystal) of Greensboro, NC. Sezzie added to his family a host of close friends. Ramon Terry, Montez Futrell, Jay "Bobito" Cooper, Ramzee Kirby, Mike Bolton, Dee James, Travis Alston, James Mitchell, Samantha Wade Lewis, LaDonna Lewis Jones, Lee Roy Cooper and the class of '76 Whirlies to name a few. He also leaves to cherish his memory his nieces and nephews Steven Parham, Onett Redfearn, Audrey Parham and Brie Hairston, a host of great nieces, great nephews, family and friends.
Sezzie tackled every quarter of life with love, care, support, protection and faith. He pinned this thing called life down to the mat and ran his race with fervor.
There will be a service honoring the life of Sezzie Love on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Reid Memorial CME Church, 1010 Bennett Street, Greensboro NC. The visitation will begin at 12:30 pm and the service will follow at 1 pm.
