Deacon Samuel Dewberry, Sr. was born in Yatesville, GA to Thomas Dewberry and Pearlie Mann on May 31, 1932. He married the love of his life Della Dewberry on May 18, 1956 and to this union four children were born.

Samuel was a devoted Christian who loved his family at New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. He was highly involved in his church where he served as an Usher and Deacon. He was instrumental in the development of the Prison Ministry.

As a 20-year Army veteran, he proudly served our country during both the Vietnam and Korean conflicts. As an active member of the North Carolina Disabled Americans Veterans Association, he earned several honors including recognition as a Gold Leader in the Commanders Club. Samuel pursued degrees at Rockingham Community College and Guilford College. It meant the world to him to serve in all aspects of his life and give back to his community.

Samuel was an extraordinary man with an immense passion and love for others. He truly touched the lives of all who knew him. He was never interested in touting his own abilities, but always looked for ways to be a blessing to others.

Samuel lived a fruitful life and leaves behind a legacy of love that includes his loving wife of 62 years, Della Dewberry. His children Maria Dewberry-Armstrong (LaMonte), LuShun Brown (Carl), Samuel Dewberry, Jr (Zaneta) and Anthony Dewberry (Teresita "Leka"). He also leaves behind a generation of grandchildren: Mairin Poe (Jeffrey) Jonathan Soulsby, Dymont Dewberry, Nicholas Dewberry, Calista Dewberry, Kennedi Dewberry and Anori Dewberry. He also leaves a cherished brother Jerry Dewberry and a host of relatives and friends. Private graveside service on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Lakeview Memorial Park.
