Obituary

Ruth Smith Amos Hester was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina on February 7, 1925. She moved to Greensboro in 1950 to make a better life for herself and children. She joined Saint Stephen United Church of Christ and was a faithful member until her health failed. While active in her church she was a member of the Oliver/Willis Sunday School class, a member of Circle No. 1 where she served as President. She was a former member of the Chancellor Choir, Speech Choir, Deaconess Board, Wednesday Night Bible Study and the Women's Fellowship. She was honored with a Life Membership from Church Women of the Southern Conference. Ruth worked as a housekeeper at UNCG formerly Women's College and after retirement she worked twenty one years for the City of Greensboro as a Crossing Guard. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lizzie Smith, both husbands, William H. Amos, Sr. and Floyd Hester; son, William H. Amos, Jr. son-in-law, John L. Williams, Sr. and aunt, Maggie Smith. Left to cherish her memories are: son, Jennings S. Amos (Gloria); three daughters, Margaret Ruffin (Sam) of Hephzibah, GA; Claudia Williams of Pleasant Garden, NC and Cynthia Dianne Hester Crawford of Greensboro, NC, nine grand-children, Ronnie Pinnix, of Lawrence,GA, Lisa McMurray of Charlotte, NC, Marcus Amos (Crystal)), Khidja Amos, Destiny Amos, John Williams, Jr. (Jasmine), Aaiha Hester, Shon Anthony all of Greensboro, NC and Anita Yvette Williams of Pleasant Garden, NC; twelve great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Annie Amos of Brown Summit, NC, uncle, Clarence Smith; a dear friend, Louise Young and a person who's like a daughter, Brenda Dalton James all of Greensboro, NC and other relatives and friends.
