Rosetta Dawkins was born on February 15, 1933 to the late Rezno Jeffries and Minnie Mae Gatewood in Cherokee County, South Carolina. She was the 2nd eldest child of six children. She departed this life on January 11, 2020. During her teen years, Rosetta suffered the loss of both parents. This impact led her to become a role model for her siblings. She went on to complete her GED and even gained a career as a nursing assistant. She would maintain this career at Evergreens Nursing Home until her retirement in 1998. In 1950, Rosetta married the love of her life James Tillman Dawkins Sr. (Jake) with whom she had two children Jeniece and James. Rosetta and Jake were married for 47 years until his demise in 1997. Rosetta was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for many years. Even after her health declined, leaving her wheelchair bound, she would partake in home worship services and Communion up until the very week of her departure. In her free time, Rosetta enjoyed traveling, listening to music, and spending time with her family. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Rezno and Minnie Mae Gatewood; husband, James Dawkins, Sr.; Her siblings, Clement (Speedy), Mary Martha Ann, Richard (Jack) and Willie Golden. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeniece and James Jr. (Sharon); Her Grandchildren, James lll (Rosalyn), Jarrett, Jaide & Dr. Crystal Cene; Great-grandchildren, Braxton, Yasmine, Sienna, and Yasin; Her Brother, Daniel (Knotty) Golden, of Greensboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. A service honoring her life will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 at New Zion Missionary Baptist; 403 MLK Jr. Dr. Greensboro, NC. Visitation will begin at 1:30pm with service following at 2pm. Internment will be at Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
