Robert Henry Wright was born on April 14, 1944 in Middletown Delaware to Robert Henry and Edna Wright. He gained his heavenly wings on February 7, 2022 in Moses Cone Hospital, following slowly declining health.
Robert, better known as Bobby or Tiger graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1962. He served in the United States Army for 4 years. He received an honorable discharge on September 30, 1966 after achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a Rifle Expert. He also received the National Defense Service Medal.
Bobby was employed at P. Lorillard from May 6, 1968 until he retired on March 1, 2000. After retiring from Lorillard, He attended GTCC where he was certified in Heating and Air Conditioning and received his CNA license. For several years he worked as the personal aide of the founder of Tanger Outlets. He also drove the student shuttle at NC A&T State University. When his health allowed, Bobby was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with family as well as friends.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Wright and Edna Wright Wharton; His wife, the former Willie Jean Harris, who he was married to for 30 years; one brother Samuel C. Hopkins; and a grandson.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Boyd and George Allen Wright of Greensboro NC and Robert Lamonte Wright of Charlotte NC; daughters, Latoya Wright of Charlotte NC and Shennel Harrison of Greensboro NC; also a special granddaughter Jaszimine Graves of Greensboro NC; sisters, Mary Blackwell and Donna Wharton both of Greensboro NC; brothers, James Lewis Wright (Catherine), and Michael Wharton of Greensboro NC; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
A service honoring his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm.
Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
