Robert Lee Joyner, 83, of Greensboro, NC passed away peacefully during the early hours of Thursday, April 6, 2017. He was born June 24, 1933 in Farmville, NC to the late James Joyner and the late Maggie Foreman-Joyner of Farmville, NC. He married Jeanie Williams of Snow Hill, NC and remained happily married for 54 years. He served in the United States Army. Upon leaving the Army, he moved to Greensboro, NC and worked for the United States Post Office for 28 years. Upon retirement from the Post Office, he and Jeanie opened "The Jays" which they operated for over 15 years. He often said while working "I can sell anything". Robert was a graduate of Farmville High School (now H.B. Suggs High School) and received his BS degree in Biology from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. He joined Reid Memorial CME Church when he moved to Greensboro—and was a staunch member for several years- serving in multiple capacities and receiving many awards. He later joined Bethel AME Church where he was a member of the Lay Organization, Sons of Allen and Class #6. He was also active with the Greensboro NAACP where he served as a recruiter and was very instrumental in getting Bethel a plaque of recognition for bringing in the most new members. He was also very active with the Greensboro Urban Ministry and their annual Crop Walk—providing t-shirts for each member who participated in the Crop Walk. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, board games and bowling. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanie Joyner of Greensboro, NC, son, Roderic Joyner of Charlotte, NC, sister Barbara Peyton of Martinsburg, WV, special cousins Harold Vines & Patricia Vines of Baltimore, MD , sister in law Jesse Clarke of Ft. Washington, MD, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A service honoring his life will be held at Bethel AME Church; 200 North Regan Street, Greensboro, NC; on Monday, April, 10, 2017 beginning at 12:00 pm. The interment will take place following the service at Guilford Memorial Park;6000 West Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC.
