Ray Lewis, the son of the late Clarence Lewis, Sr. and Janie Bargeron Lewis, was born on August 10, 1934, in Greensboro, NC. He was reared and nurtured under the guidance of a loving family in the Warnersville Community and attended New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Ray transitioned to his heavenly home on December 5, 2016, at Maple Grove Health and Rehabilitation Center. He received his education within the Greensboro Public School System of North Carolina. Ray was married to the late Mamie Riddick Lewis and to this union two children, Ray and Kimberly, were born. In pursuit of career opportunities, Ray moved with his family to Washington, DC, where he was employed at G.C. Murphy Department Store. Later, the family returned to Greensboro and he was employed at UNC-G. In later years as Ray experienced declining health, he became a resident at the Maple Grove Health & Rehabilitation Center where he developed fond friendships with fellow residents and staff. In addition to his parents and wife, Ray was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence, Jr., Alfeus, John, Thomas and Alvin Lewis; and sister, Carolyn Lewis Simmons. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are: son, Ray Anthony Lewis, Durham NC; daughter, Kimberly Mizzell, Decatur, GA; two sisters, Georgie Lewis Wright (Porter), Greensboro, NC; Maggie-Jean Lewis Turner, Iowa City, IA; twin brother, Roy Lewis, Greensboro, NC; sisters-in-law, Frances H. Lewis, Greensboro, NC; Peggy Vann (Ralph), Ahoskie, NC; Helen Gamble (Otho), Charlotte, NC; Janie Harrell (Julius), Durham, NC; and Frances Mizzell (Fred), Decatur, GA; brothers-in-law, Jesse Riddick (Gwyn), Vernon Riddick (Reverend Johnnie Riddick), Durham NC; and Curtis Riddick (Danna), Ahoskie, NC; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. A service honoring his life will be held at New Missionary Baptist Church; 408 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Greensboro, North Carolina, 27406 on Friday, December 16, 2016. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. The interment will take place following the service at Maplewood Cemetery; 235 Bingham Street, Greensboro, North Carolina, 27401.
