Mrs. Randy James Foster went home to be with our Lord on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Beacon Place Hospice with her supportive and loving husband at her bedside saying, 'We will be together again one day.' Mrs. Randy James Foster was born November 5, 1934 in Great Falls, Chester County, South Carolina to the late Minnie Bell Mitchell and Robert James. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Sgt. (Ret.) Jessie James, one son, SSgt. (Ret.) Randolph Harris, and grandson, Dennis ("DJ") Foster, Jr. In 1948, Randy was baptized and became an active member of the Mount Calvary AME Zion Church in Lancaster, South Carolina. On August 28, 1954, Randy married the inseparable love of her life, Robert James Foster and later moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. They proudly raised three sons and one daughter. Shortly after relocating to Greensboro, Randy joined the Trinity AME Zion Church, where she served faithfully until her health began to decline. While worshipping at Trinity, she diligently served as a member of the Daughters of Conference, Life Member Council, Missionary Society, Golden VIPs, Zion Crusaders, Senior Usher Board, and Deaconess Board. Randy was a dedicated and loving homemaker for she took great pleasure in cooking and caring for her husband and children. For brief periods of her life, she was employed by Dixie Uniform Company and Levi Strauss. She later returned home to embrace her "true calling" as the "unregistered nurse." She cared for her parents, mother-in-law, step mother-in- law, sister-in-law as well as many friends. Throughout her lifetime, Randy was indeed a blessing to others. Not only did she care for her immediate family and close friends, but she shared her warm and nurturing spirit among all those she came to know. She was always committed to helping others in need. In furtherance of her service commitment to others and her community, she served as a member of the Imperial Court Daughters of Isis, Price Hall Affiliate, and Magnolia Chapter 23, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliate. Eastside Civitans, Concerned Citizens of Northeast Greensboro, and Vice President of the Kings Forest Neighborhood Association. Randy was notably a very poised, humble and graceful "lady." She enjoyed bowling, sewing, gardening, baking, and canning her freshly harvested fruits. Her signature pound cakes will always be revered as true testaments of her sweet spirit and loving kindness. She will surely be missed by her lifelong love, Robert James Foster; son, Dennis Foster (Sherry) of Ridgeway, VA; daughter, Zanzella Foster Savoy (Terry) of Greensboro, North Carolina; and son, GySgt. (Ret.) Darryl Foster (Shirley) of Wake Forest, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchild; and a host of other loving family members and friends. Throughout her life, God placed many special people in her life, a goddaughter, Connie Gatson (Darryl); very special friends, Codella and Leon Phipps; and caring neighbors, Shirley Vanstory and Goldie Wells. A service of worship and celebration of life will be held, Saturday, February 11th at 2pm at Trinity AME Zion Church, located at 631 East Florida Street, Greensboro NC 27406. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 1pm. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Services are being handled by Perry J. Brown Funeral Home.
