Early Thursday morning, January 31, 2019 Perry Hairston was preparing for his final flight. This was the day that God repositioned his bearings and executed his exit from the earth and his entrance into eternity. At his hospice bedside his wife, his daughter and his family stood and watched as he slipped into eternity. Perry Como Hairston better known as "Old School" or "Pee Wee", started his journey February 17, 1955. He was born to the late Paul and Jean Hairston in Madison, NC. He was the fourth to be born from that blessed union. He received his childhood education and graduated from Madison Mayodan Senior High School. While attending Madison Mayodan Senior High School he won the High School Basketball 3A Championship in 1973. Upon graduating from Madison Mayodan Senior High School in 1975 he entered the United States Army. Perry's Army career took him around the world as a Military Police Officer where he completed his service as an E-7 Sergent and finished his service as a diesel mechanic. His military service took him to various places to include: Kansas, Germany, Alaska, Korea and California to name a few. While on leave from Germany he met his beautiful bride to be, Priscilla Love-Hairston. They continued their courtship for 10 plus years and on May 24, 1993 they united in holy matrimony. To this union one daughter, Brie Nina Hairston was born and a bonus child, Nichole Love-Terry he welcomed lovingly. Perry Hairston decided to continue his education and attend Forsyth Technical Community College where he received his degrees in Diesel Mechanics, Automotive and Body Work. From there he worked for major trucking companies such as Old Dominion and later worked for and retired from Ryder Transport Company after 19 years of service. Perry liked a lot of things, but he loved his Dudley High Panthers and NC A&T Aggies. He attended every home game and supported both schools regularly. He was often seen dancing in the stands while grooving to his band played favorites. This Blue and Gold fan was Aggie Born and Aggie Breed! He also loved football and was ecstatic when Tarik Cohen was drafted to his all-time favorite NFL team the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed watching basketball, UNC-Chapel Hill all day and watched NASCAR where he cheered for Dale Earnhardt. Perry even enjoyed drag racing, muscle cars and old car restoration. This jack of all trades even enjoyed refinishing old furniture and turning another's trash into a hidden treasure. Perry was preceded in death by his father, Paul Hairston, his mother Jean D. Hairston and his brother, Bruce Hairston. Amongst those left to cherish this family man's love and legacy are: his wife of 25 years, Priscilla Love Hairston, his daughter, Brie Nina Hairston, his bonus daughter/niece Nichole Love-Terry, his 3 "monsters" (grandchildren): Cierrah A. Love, Justin A. Terry, and Brayden A. Terry; his Brothers: Paul "Eddie" Hairston (Althea), Douglas Hairston (Patricia) both of Madison, NC; Sisters: Vera Martin (Milton) of Walnut Cove, NC, Cheryl Hairston, Mary Ann Hairston both of Madison, NC; 2 Sister-in-laws and 1 Brother-in-law: Lucy Mae Parham of Milton, MA, Theresa Love (Lloyd Malcom) of Dorchester, MA and Sezzie Love of Greensboro, NC.
