Penny Kaye VanHook Penny Kaye VanHook, 63, transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 22, 2024, after an extended period of illness.
Penny was born on January 15, 1961, in Burlington, NC to the late Ida Inez VanHook and Fred Bowles. Penny completed her primary and secondary education in the Guilford County School System where she graduated from Ben L. Smith High School in 1979.
Upon graduating from high school, Penny worked for K&W Cafeteria for well-over 20 years and for the US Postal Service for 10 years.
Penny enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandson. She was a loving and giving person with a witty personality, who loved to make those around her laugh. Family and friends have very fond memories of Penny rushing people out of her house by a certain time; her favorite saying was "You don't have to go home, but you've got to get out of here." Playing cards with family and friends was a favorite past-time of hers.
In addition to her parents, Penny was preceded in death by her sister Patricia "Pat" VanHook. Left to cherish her loving memory her daughter, LaKecia Vanhook, grandson, Shemar Vanhook; three sisters, Debra (Lazar) Jones, Annette (Ann) Vanhook and Jannette (Jan) Vanhook Valentine; one brother, Michael Vanhook; special nieces and nephews, Kimberly (Antonio) Price, Sherita Valentine, Anton Jones, Antoine (Jess) Jones, Edward Valentine Jr, Michael Vanhook Jr., Keshanna Vanhook and Pooh Vanhook; a very special cousin, Robin Sanders, and a host of other family and friends.
To know Penny was to love and adore her. She will be remembered not with tears, but for the joy and laughter she brought to those around her.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 12:30p – 1pm, Sunday September 29, 2024, at the Perry J Brown Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1pm.
