IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pennie Elaine
Cornelius Holder
February 17, 2018
Pennie Elaine Cornelius was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. Pennie blessed this earth on January 21st 1957, the fourth child of Elease Cornelius and the late Ivory Cornelius. At an early age she fell in love with Jesus, the first love of her life. At age 8, she was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. At the age of 16 she lost her father, Ivory Cornelius and deepened her relationship and walk with Jesus. Pennie attended Dudley High School graduating in 1975. She continued her education by attending Oakwood University, in Huntsville AL. As a student she also worked as a colporteur. She sold books to pay her way through college and even earned enough to help others with their tuition. She never lost her love for books and reading about her wonderful friend, Jesus. She lived with Dr. Francis Bliss, an education professor at Oakwood, University. In 1977, Dr. Bliss had problems with her roof. She called Ellis Baptiste, a local carpenter, to fix the problem. Mr. Baptiste sent Mr. Richard A. Holder to fix the roof. He was also a student at Oakwood University. While Richard was working hard on the roof, Pennie caught his eye, and in 1979, two years later, Pennie Cornelius became Mrs. Pennie Cornelius Holder; when she married the second love of her life, Richard Holder. Pennie graduated with a degree in General Studies June 6th of 1982. She later found her calling in helping others and pursued and graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in May of 1982. Richard and Pennie moved to London, England for a life dedicated to serving others. In 1985 they started a family with the birth of their first child, Daniel, soon followed by Nathaniel. She spent her days playing with her boys, climbing trees, and riding bikes, and her nights working as a nurse. After ten years of fun with the boys, the Holders were blessed with two precious daughters, Hadassah and Candace. As a dynamic duo, Pennie and Richard impacted the lives of many, especially young people. Pennie was known by her beautiful quick smile and her joyful and kind disposition. Family and friends were her passion and delight. She was a preacher's wife for 35 years, until Richard's untimely passing in 2012. Pennie was a faithful wife and mother, she spent hours each day reading her bible and praying for her children, family and friends. Although the Greensboro native never sought the spotlight, preferring more behind-the-scenes roles, Pennie had her own unique ministry as she made an impact on everyone she met, spreading words of inspiration, wisdom and love. Pennie wanted everyone she met to know her friend and Savior, Jesus. Pennie moved back to Greensboro, North Carolina to be with her loving family. She spent the final years of life with her mother, sisters, daughters, and child hood friends. She spent her days reading her bible, walking, spreading the Good News, and gardening. She passed away on Saturday February 17, 2018, leaving this world peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family. She leaves behind to continue her legacy, her mother, Elease Cornelius, her children, Daniel (Salina), Nathaniel, Hadassah, Candace and Bintia Maeva Piron (Hugues), and her granddaughters, Abigail and Grace. Her brothers, Frederick, and Steve Cornelius, her sisters, Denise Cornelius Foster (Roy), Linda Jones (Stephen), Shelia Cornelius, Kathy Cornelius Taylor (Reginald), 14 nieces and nephews, and a host of aunts, cousins, relatives and friends.
