Pauline Gallop was born on August 12, 1926, in Harbinger, NC, Currituck County to the late Alfred Herman Gallop and Gertrude Gallop. She was the second oldest of Alfred and Gertrude's seven children.

At an early age, Pauline was an avid student and had a thirst for learning. She loved books and enjoyed working with her grandmother's employer, for the benefit of her library. Pauline continued to be a conscientious student and graduated as valedictorian from her high school. Later in life, after her youngest children became school age, Pauline attended technical school for Library Science and graduated with honors.

Pauline met her husband Frissell when she was a maid and he a clerk/bell hop at Wilbert Wright Hotel in Dare County on Kill Devil Hills beach, in the early 1940s. They were bonded by their love for education and learning. Frissell was drafted in 1941 at the beginning of WWII. He returned 5 years later after the war to marry his bride, Pauline.

Pauline was very supportive in her husband's career endeavors in Nova Scotia Canada when he was a school principal. She spent much of her time teaching Sunday School and bible school for the young people in the community. When Frissell became a professor at Hampton University in VA and St. Augustine's University in Raleigh NC, Pauline continued to be a homemaker but spent considerable amount of time as a parent volunteer in the city schools and taught Child Evangelism in the community.

Pauline worked as a Teacher's Assistant for the Greensboro City Schools for several years, retiring shortly after her husband, Frissell, became ill in the 1990s. Prior to that, she was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. Outside of her family, her greatest passion was evangelism. She had accepted Christ as a young mother in her 20s under the radio ministry of the late Oliver B. Green. Spreading the good news of Christ and salvation was her mission through various ministries. In addition, she was strongly committed to humanitarian, civic, and national concerns, especially those pertaining to race relations and the needs of the underprivileged. Pauline had a very warm personality and loving spirit; she rarely met a stranger and was a delight to most.

After retiring and the death of Frissell, Pauline continued to live a very full life through ministries, community activities. Pauline also liked to stay physically active. She enjoyed gardening, walking her ramp several times a week, attending the YMCA for water aerobics and most recently, enthusiastically, participated in resistance and weight training. She was adamant about church attendance and attended regularly up until this past Sunday, 8/20. As her health declined due to ambulatory challenges and dementia, she was fortunate to remain in her home with the good care of outstanding caregivers, the love of her children, grandchildren, daughter- in-law and son-in-laws, and extended family.

We rest assured that Pauline is now in the hands of the Lord and has been made perfectly whole in Christ.

A service honoring her life will be held Thursday, August 31 at Westover Church Theatre; 505 Muirs Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410. The visitation will begin at 1:30 at the service will follow at 2pm.
