Obituary

Mrs.Patricia was born to Mr. and Mrs. David and Sarah R. Bethea at Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby, NC and grew up in Cherryville, NC Gaston County on August 14, 1948. Her nicknames were Pat, Trish, and Trisha Ann. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Cherryville, NC where she served as Sunday School Secretary and Delegate.

Always caring about others, Pat naturally demonstrated characteristics of a great teacher throughout life. She was fun, loving and kind with multiple talents. A skilled basketball player who earned a spot on the varsity team. Also, she enjoyed playing both the clarinet and saxophone in the marching and concert band. As a member of the glee club and soloist, singing soprano would bless the ears of those fortunate to hear her beautiful voice. Additionally, she was an honor student and in the last class to graduate from the segregated John Chavis High School.

Pat met Alex "Flem" and married on October 5, 1970. With love and devotion, three daughters, Alexis, Alisa, and Dara were born and raised in Greensboro, NC. She adored her family and was always very loyal. Pat graduated from Bennet College, Greensboro, NC with a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and her Master's Degree in Intermediate Education from NC A&T State University. Her teaching career started in Gaston County Schools followed by Reidsville City Schools and ending in Greensboro City Schools where she retired after 30 years of service.

Reading, antique shopping, and church/youth-oriented activities were her interests. She was actively involved as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Greensboro Alumni Chapter. Pat would also volunteer with the Providence Baptist Church Sunday School Department and Community Service Guild. After becoming homebound, she remained grateful for the help and support of loved ones. When in her presence, she would give a look that if you knew her, you knew what she would say. Her hearty laugh was so rich and deep, it would fill the room with joy. Keeping her trust in God, she looked forward to the daily bible readings, visits from family, friends, and church members, taking a ride, and sitting outside in the sun.
