Ogden Bertrand Spruill, lovingly referred to as "Oggie" by family and as "Beau" by college friends, was born September 8, 1960 in Greensboro, NC to Floydelia "Dee" Farrish and the late Albert W. Spruill. After battling diabetes and cancer for a number of years he took his eternal rest on November 3, 2020.
As a Greensboro native, Oggie fiercely loved his community, family and friends. He carried his passion for connecting with people and developing friendships from primary school through high school at Grimsley Sr. High and on to college at his beloved UNC Chapel Hill where he graduated with the Class of '82.
After graduation, he followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a dedicated educator with a huge passion for inspiring the hearts and minds of young, gifted, and talented academics at both The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and The Illinois Math and Science Academy.
After being diagnosed with diabetes he returned home and was nurtured back to a renewed joy in life by a loving family and supportive community.
Ogden had a deep love and appreciation for playing and watching basketball or "ball," for all things automotive, for hibachi restaurants, and for his alma mater UNC. He cherished his family, friends, students and especially "Heaven's Angel", his Aerin.
He is survived by his daughter, Aerin Spruill of Charlotte, NC, mother, Floydelia Spruill of Greensboro, NC, brothers Westley Spruill (Chris) of Boston, MA, and Ronald Spruill of Greensboro, NC, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ogden's long time friends who have buoyed him during his health challenges - Bernard Bell, Mumfred Bowden, Jacqui Graves, and many others.
A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider contributing to a GoFundMe to support final arrangements. https://www.gofundme.com/f/raise-money-to-help-Ogden-Spruill?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=sms&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet
Ogden's family and friends tremendously appreciate all your kind words, acts of kindness, prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
