Born November 8, 1924, in Zebulon, NC, she attended public schools in Wake County, NC. Her education achievements include a B.S. degree from Shaw University, M.A. Degree from North Carolina Central University and Ph.D. from Walden University. Neda loved teaching mathematics. She taught in the city schools in Thomasville, NC, and later at Dudley High and Grimsley High in Greensboro, NC. She also taught Adult Basic Education at Davidson Community College in Lexington, NC. She retired from teaching in 1984. Her lifeâ??s career as an educator was very enjoyable and rewarding.Neda loved her children Thomasena and Sylvester; son-in-law David; granddaughters Davetta and Nicole. They were always the center of her thoughts and conversation. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Church participation was a very important part of Nedaâ??s life. At an early age she was baptized in the fellowship of Wakefield Baptist Church in Zebulon, NC. Neda always found herself in the spiritual community. She loved music and played the piano for various churches in Thomasville, NC. Later Neda moved to Greensboro where she joined Providence Baptist Church. Her devoted membership at Providence Baptist Church was exemplary until her health declined. She established and directed the Tutorial Program in Mathematics and Reading for young adults. Neda was President of the Providence Philathea Missionary Circle, President of the Guilford County Baptist Missionary Union and pianist for the Providence Sunday School Department. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Senior Choir.Dr. Harris was an active member in various professional and civic organizations and held offices in some of them. She was President of the Greater Greensboro Club; Past Club President National Association of College Women; President of the Guilford County Baptist Missionary Union; President and Founder of the Greensboro Branch of the National Association of University Women; member of the American Association of University Women; the North Carolina Teachers Association, and Greensboro Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.Nede was the recipient of several awards and honors including: Senior Citizen of the Month, Hayes-Taylor YMCA; Outstanding Service to National Association of Negro Business and Professional Womenâ??s Clubs, Inc.; Outstanding and Devoted Service as President of the Greater Greensboro NANBPW Club, Inc.Neda was preceded in death by her parents and 7 siblings. Those left to celebrate her life are her loving daughter, Dr. Thomasena Harris Woods of Hampton, VA; her devoted son, Sylvester Lee Harris of Greensboro; son-in-law David C. Woods of Hampton, VA; granddaughters, Davetta Woods Goins (Christopher) of Lorton, VA; Nicole Woods Adams (Aaron) of Leesburg, VA; two great grandsons Vincent Tyler Goins and Xavier Anthony Adams; one great granddaughter Alexis Adrienne Adams; one sister Mrs. Eredena High Young of Cary, NC; 3 sister-in-laws: Mrs. Willie High of Greensboro, NC; Mrs. Mary High of Dumfries, VA, and Mrs. Virginia High of Riverdale, GA; several nieces and nephews, and a host of relative and friends.
