Obituary

Ms. Nannie Leftwich died on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Born on July 17, 1925 in Danville, VA, she was preceded in death by her son, James Thomas Woodson, parents, Posey and Lula Thornton Leftwich, her siblings Annie Jennings, Doris Dixon, Mary Fannie Morrison, Katherine Pritchett, Gothan, Oscar, and James Leftwich. Also she was predeceased by Barbara P. Tarpley and James I. Pritchett, children of Katherine who were reared by Posey and Lula Thornton as siblings for Nannie. Nannie was a lifetime Baptist. She had her Christian beginnings at Silver Creek Baptist Church in Pittsylvania County Virginia. She moved to Washington, DC in 1966 immediately joining with the congregation at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. She served there faithfully until August 1988 when because of failing health she relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina. Here in Greensboro, she joined with the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church Family, where she attended and worked faithfully. Nannie is survived by her daughter, Patricia Woodson Walton (John), two grandsons John Michael Walton and Lymond Lamont White, Sister Mildred L. Hairston and brother, P.L. Leftwich (Katie) as well as by many nieces and nephews, and friends. A service honoring the life of Ms. Leftwich will take place on Friday, June 3, 2016 at New Zion Baptist Church; 1310 Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Greensboro, North Carolina 27406. The visitation will begin at 1:30 am and the service will follow at 2:00 pm.
