Ms. Geneva
Lewis
Jul 8, 1957 — Jun 8, 2026
On Thursday evening, June 8, 2026, Ms. Geneva M. Lewis, surrounded by her family, passed from mortality to immortality at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.Born on July 8, 1957, in Kershaw, South Carolina, Geneva was the beloved daughter of the late Jessie and Annie Miller. She was educated in the South Carolina public school system, as well as the Guilford County School System.
At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Mt. Olivet A.M.E. Zion Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. Geneva had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Throughout her adult life, she sang in multiple choirs at Mt. Olivet, including the Triad Mass Choir, Ron Jones and Perfect Praise, Joyful Praise Community Singers, and many others. Singing was her outlet and a gift that she lovingly passed down to her beloved daughter, Jessica Lewis.
Geneva also had a deep love for children. She began her career at Tot Haven and KinderCare where she learned to nurture and care for the whole child. She later furthered her career by joining Guilford County Schools as a K–5 Teacher Assistant. During her years of service, she worked at Hampton Elementary, Peeler Elementary, and Bluford-Peeler Elementary Schools. She was a nurturing teacher whose kindness, patience, and unwavering dedication touched countless lives. She taught with love, inspired with grace, and helped every child she encountered believe in their own potential. After more than 29 years of hard work and dedication, Geneva retired from Guilford County Schools in 2022.
Geneva was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jessie and Annie Miller. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter, Jessica Lewis; granddaughters, Tamariyah, Derecia, and Khloe; great-grandson, Messiah (“MJ”); aunts, Nannie Mae Seegars, Barbara Newman, and Hattie Lee Hood; uncles, George Newman (Teresa) and Henry Newman; and an adopted daughter, Erica “The Baby”Ingram. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who loved her very much.
Although Geneva was an only child, she was never alone. She shared a special bond with her godsister, Margaret George, and her many cousins—13+ on her mother’s side and 6 on her father’s side. Raised together they grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and lifelong memories.
