Willie Lee Cherry, Sr., 95, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026.

He was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, and later made his home in Greensboro, where he became a devoted and longtime employee of Wesley Long Hospital for over 40 years. Willie was an exemplary worker who was deeply respected and cherished by hospital staff and patients alike. His dedication, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Willie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Betsy Cherry. Known for his kind heart, generosity, and sense of humor, Willie brought joy and comfort to his family and friends. He was a great family man whose love and guidance will be remembered always.

In his free time, Willie found peace and happiness working in his garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his nephew, Frank Woods, and eating his sister-in-law, Mildred Cherry’s pound cakes.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betsy Cherry; his daughters, Reecie Rankin, Sharon Raleigh Catlin (Gary), Sheila Pulliam, and Yvonne Scales; and his sons, Joseph Rankin, Douglas Glover, and Willie Cherry, Jr. (Francine). He also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of other beloved family members.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Cassie Coote Brown Memorial Chapel at Perry J. Brown Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Guilford Memorial Park 6000 W Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407.
