Obituary

Moses Alexander Buie, Jr. was born in Fayetteville, N.C. on December 22, 1925. He transitioned from this earth to his heavenly home on August 24, 2015 following a brief illness. He was the oldest of five children born to Moses Alexander Buie, Sr. and Alberta Major. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Nathaniel Buie; a sister, Mary Helen Werts; a daughter, Angela Snowden; and his first wife, Ernestine Hicks. Upon his graduation with honors from Atkins High School in Winston Salem, N.C., he attended and graduated from Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama with a B.S. degree in chemistry. It was there that he pledged the Alpha Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and later served as dean of pledges. He always remained a staunch financial supporter of his alma mater. He then moved to Chicago, Illinois where he spent his first months living in the Alpha Phi Alpha House. He pursued employment at Sherwin Williams Paint Company where he eventually became a plant manager supervising the production of paints. He married, raised his family and remained at the company until his retirement. Alexander was a member of Greater Institutional AME Church in Chicago. He loved singing in the choir, was a member of the Trustee Board, and served as Superintendent of Sunday School for many years. Alexander was a passionate and determined man. In 2012, he sold his house in Chicago and returned to his home state of North Carolina. He relocated in Greensboro where he married the second love of his life, Esther Carter. He then joined the Saint Matthews United Methodist Church family where he remained faithful until his death. He always enjoyed playing golf with his brother Bill; however, his most precious activity was spending time with his son, Reginald who is a musician. He and Esther attended many of Reggie's performances throughout the Triad. They enjoyed the sweet, soothing music he provided. The only down side to Alexander's move to Greensboro was his missed time with his grandchildren who lived in Chicago. This kind, gentle, humble man will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Esther; his devoted son, Reginald (Jasmine) Winston Salem, NC; two brothers, Bill Buie (Elaine) Greensboro; Charles Buie (Constance) Detroit, Michigan; six grandchildren: Myles Buie (Sharisse) Maryland; Marcus A. Buie and Janette A. Buie-Robinson, Mobile. Alabama; Sylvia, Lydia and Charles Snowden,II, Chicago, Illinois; two great grandchildren, Madison and Jada Robinson; one son-in-law, Charles Snowden, Sr.; and a host of relatives and friends. A service honoring the life of Mr. Moses Alexander Buie, Jr. will be held at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 600 E Florida Street, Greensboro, North Carolina 27406 on Thursday August 26, 2015.
