Mizell Hawkins passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the age of 98, in Greensboro, NC with his son Linwood Leon by his side. He was born on September 2,1926, in Windfall, NC. Mizell is the son of the late Hubert and Alice Hawkins. His life was a testament of hard work and dedication. He was a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.
Mizell graduated from Perquimans County Training School in May 1947. He served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in February 1955. He entered The Agriculture & Technical College; Greensboro, NC and graduated in May 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. Mizell worked full time with the U.S. Postal Service while pursuing his education at A&T.
After graduation, he continued to work and advance in his career with the U.S.Postal Service for approximately thirty years until retirement. Upon retirement, Mizell began working for Guilford County Schools as a personal student assistant and later, as a substitute teacher until retirement.
Mizell was baptised at an early age and attended worship services at Baptist and Methodist Churches in the community. He united with Providence Baptist Church shortly after coming to Greensboro. His passion for singing was evidenced by his participation in three choirs which included the Male Chorus that traveled occasionally to other cities and Churches.
Mizell is survived by His son Linwood L. Hawkins, Sr., granddaughter Linnette Jackson (Reginald), Grandson Linwood L. Hawkins, Jr (Alvesia), great-grandchildren Lakesha Jackson, Amiri Hawkins, Imani Hawkins, Reginald Jackson II (Brittany), and great-great-granddaughter Kennedy Hawkins, and a host of dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.
Mizell Hawkins will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable 98 years.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 11, 2025 12pm Providence Baptist Church 1106 Tuscaloosa Street Greensboro, North Carolina. Visitation 11:30am.
Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park 6000 West Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, North Carolina.
