Mrs. Maybelle Alexander "Granny" Joyce was born on November 5, 1919, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She departed this life on Friday, January 4, 2019 at her home in Courtland Manor, New York.

At an early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and attended Geese Grove Baptist Church in Siler City, North Carolina and also attended Chatham High School there.

Maybelle was united in holy matrimony on September 30, 1939 to Alphonzo Spruill. To this union five (5) children were born. After the death of Alfonzo Spruill on June 10, 1968, she later married Elmer Joyce.

Mrs. Joyce moved to Peekskill, New York in 1967 and was employed at Franklin Delanor Roosevelt Veterans Administration for twenty-five (25) years. She received numerous awards of excellence for her service to our Veterans of the United States Military.

While in Peekskill, she joined Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, and remained an active member until her illness with Alzheimer's disease. Her Christian faith was beautiful like the flowers that she loved so well.

Because of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Other than her husbands, she was preceded in death by son: James A. Spruill, Jr.; grandsons: Clarence Spruill, Jr. and Lee Franklin; and grand-daughter: Noelle Spruill-Chandler.

Maybell's life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Joycee Spruill (Dorothy) of Kernersville, NC; Clarence Spruill of Peekskill, NY; Shirley Spruill Palmer (Tony) of Peekskill, NY and Martha Spruill-Rouse of Cortland Manor, NY; nine (9) grandchildren; sixteen (16) great-grandchildren; twelve (12) great great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A service honoring her life will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home; 909 E Market St. Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 1:30 pm and the service will follow at 2 pm. The interment will take place following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N O'Henry Blvd. Greensboro, NC.
