Obituary

Mrs. Maxine C. Davis passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

A service honoring her life will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church

Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm. Interment: Lakeview Memorial Park

Our beloved Bettie Maxine Caddell Davis transioned peacefully to her heavenly home on April 27, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital following a brief illness. Maxine (as she was affectionately known) was borned June 7, 1932 to the late John Waylon Caddell and Ethel Fultz Caddell in West End North Carolina.

Her early education elementary education began in West End North Carolina. The family moved to Greensboro in 1940 and she completed her elementary education at East White Oak Elementary School. After graduating from James B. Dudley High School in 1950, she enrolled at then NC A&T College, persuing a Secretarial Science.

Maxine worked at Piedmont Hospital for a while. In 1955 she started work at Moses Cone Hospital (2 years after it opened). During 40 years of employment at Moses Cone, she worked in various areas within Food Service (baby formulas, making 2 feeding formulas: inspecting patients food trays before the trays were sent to patients). She retired in 1996. She was recognized by the hospital as being one of the most dedicated employees there (never called in sick during her forty years).

In 1990, she joined Mr. Zion Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Ministry, Hospitality Committee, and a member of the Widows/Widower Ministry. Smith Active Adult Center was her second home, where she love playing bingo, the card game "Spite And Malice", and engaging in friendly conversation with anyone willing to talk. She never met a stranger!

Maxine was proceeded in death by her parents, her three brothers (James, Billy, and Dallas), four sisters (Dorothy, Geraldine, Clementin and Josephine), granddaughter (Andrea Michelle Davis and grandson Mark Shayne Davis, Sr.

Maxine leaves to cherish fond memories of love: sons Herman Davis (Joann) of Bryan, Texas., Michael Davis Sr. Greensboro, Raymond Davis, Greensboro, and a dedicated devoted daughter, Sylvia Dianne Davis, Greensboro, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Special recognition to Ms. Barbara Washington who was one of Maxine's card buddies and devoted friend.
