On March 29, 1936 our God of grace and mercy blessed us with the beautiful spirit and presence of his child, Mattie Hickman who was affectionately known to her loved ones as "Ms. Mattie." On Sunday, May 19, 2019—God, reclaimed His daughter. A service honoring her life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 in the Cassie Coote-Brown Chapel of Perry J. Brown at 909 East Market Street, Greensboro, North Carolina. The service begins at 4pm with visitation at 3:30pm Mattie was raised in the Collins Grove Community and attended Laughlin High School in Summerfield, North Carolina. She was employed by Goodwill Industries and Sears Roebuck and Company in Greensboro, NC. Mattie was preceded in death by her oldest son: Wade Hickman, Jr. (Toejoe); parents: Coy and Margie Martin; sisters: Georgianna Lindsay, Veora Cructhfield, Evelyn (Fat Baby) Martin, Margaret Maxwell and Ora Mae Williams; brothers: Seymour Hall, Curly Hall, John Martin and James Martin. Mattie leaves to cherish wonderful memories daughters: Vicky Hickman Keith, Rhonda Hickman, Meshea Hickman, April Bridges, Tanya Hickman and Shawneeque (DJ) Hickman all of Greensboro; sons: Christoper (Peewee) Hickman of Greensboro, Randy Hickman (Marilyn) of Raleigh, Adrian Hickman (Jackie), and Mark Hickman both of Greensboro; sisters: Alberta Jarvis, Virginia Pleasant, and Edna Check (Luther); brothers: Eddie Martin of Greensboro and George Martin of New York City; a host of grandchildren, great-grand-children, and other relatives and friends.
