Obituary

GREENSBORO - Mrs. Mary Browning Saddler Foust made her transition to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 14, 2013. She was born on July 27, 1914 in Gary, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Browning. She was the wife of the late Herman Foust. Mrs. Foust completed her elementary and high school education in Gary, WV. She received her Bachelor's Degree in elementary education from Bluefield State Teachers College in Bluefield, WV. She taught 22 years in the schools in McDowell County, WV and was an active member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. Many of the children that Mrs. Foust taught in Gary, WV grew up to be successful adults. She enjoyed seeing and reuniting with her former students when she was able to attend the annual Gary District High Alumni Association reunions. In 1960, Mrs. Foust moved to Greensboro, NC and taught in the Greensboro City School System for 17 years. She also received her Master's Degree from North Carolina A & T University. Mrs. Foust was a loyal and faithful member of Providence Baptist Church where she was involved in many ministries, including the Philathea Missionary Circle. She made outstanding contributions to the Greensboro community through her involvement and leadership in civic, social and fraternal organizations. She was also the recipient of many awards. Mrs. Foust served as President of the Retired Teachers Club and she was a charter member of the Greater Greensboro Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. She was a dedicated life member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and she served as the Chapter Basileus of the Greensboro Chapter. In addition to being a National Chairman for 12 years, she had the honor of placing a Life Member Plaque at her Sorority's national headquarters in Washington, DC. Mrs. Foust enriched her life through extensive travel and participating in conventions, workshops, and seminars. Mrs. Foust was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and four sisters (Alice Penn, Virginia Smith, Lula Peterson, and Eleanor Harris). She leaves to cherish her memory her kind daughter, Brenda Saddler of Clarks Summit, PA; her thoughtful granddaughter, Dr. Tonya Saddler of Clarks Summit, PA; and a special and devoted niece, Dr. Sandra Harris of Ann Arbor, MI. During the last three years of her life, Mrs. Foust received loving care from her dear cousins, Rev. Gloria Smith and Donzwella Brown and family of Winston-Salem, NC and Sharon Smith and Iesha Carmicle of Greensboro, NC. Mrs. Foust is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and other relatives. She also leaves to cherish her memory her church members, friends, and special friends Mamie Turner, Eunice Dudley, and Maggie Boone (her long-time neighbor). The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Foust will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at Providence Baptist Church, 1106 Tuscaloosa Avenue, Greensboro, where Rev. Dr. Howard Chubbs will officiate. The Family Visitation will begin at 11:30 am followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon. Interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Baptist Church, the Greensboro Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., or the Greensboro Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. in honor of Mrs. Foust.
