Obituary

Mrs. Mary Ann Rucker, formerly of Greensboro, NC transitioned to eternal life on Thursday, November 18, 2022, at Stafford Hospital in Stafford, Virginia.

Mary Ann Rucker was born on March 22, 1950, in Greensboro, NC to the late Robert Harris Jr. and Gladys Collins. She received her General Education Diploma and shortly thereafter met and married the love of her life, Jonathan Rucker Sr. on April 16, 1968. Together, Mary and Jonathan raised three children, became active members at their church, and spent memorable moments with family and friends, including the special bond they shared with their grandson, Garrison. They celebrated fifty years of marriage and friendship until Jonathan Sr. transcended to eternal life in June 2018.

Quiet in demeanor at times but always generous with a loving spirit, Mary dedicated her life to the word of God through her membership with Ward 189 and by volunteering with the Philathea and Missionary ministries at United Institutional Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. She was affectionately known as a "prayer warrior" and a "pillar of strength and support" to anyone she encountered that needed compassion including the numerous students during her many years of employment at Greensboro College. If she was not covering you with prayer, she made sure to feed your soul at least once with one of her famous and desirable lemon pound cakes.

Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Jonathan J Rucker Sr., father Robert Harris Jr, biological mother Gladys Collins, supportive mother, Carrie Bell Rogers, siblings William Sherrod, Marie Sherrod, James Harris, Terry Morris, and Rosalind Harris.
