Obituary

Mary Magdalene Williams departed her earthly life at 73 on Sunday afternoon, the nineteenth of August, in the year of our Lord twenty thousand eighteen. Born in Bethel, North Carolina, Marys' parents are the late Columbus Worsley and Emma Lee Williams. Mary was reared by her aunt and uncle the late James and Lucy Andrews, and Mary affectionately called them Daddy and Momma. Mary Williams was a member of the Greater Allen African Methodist Episcopal Cathedral under the ministry of Reverend Floyd H. Flake in Jamaica Queens, New York. After retirement, she moved to High Point, North Carolina and became a member at Temple Memorial Baptist Church where she served on the usher board and Hospitality Committee until her illness. Mary Williams graduated from Jamaica High School, Jamaica, Queens in 1963. After graduation, she was employed by New York Telephone Company for several years. Mary then advanced her career with the City of New York, New York as a Correctional Officer (Shield # 1393) from January 1, 1978 to March 9, 1998. After 20 years of dedicated service, she retired and move to High Point, North Carolina to be closer to her beloved son Maurice Eric Williams and family members from Eastern North Carolina. Mary was very active in the High Point Community and church until her illness in 2015. Mary was a very quiet person that loved to read, sit by the lake and watch the ducks, and watch cars and people go by from her living room window. Mary's favorite outing was to eat seafood at Skippers on Fridays with her Brother Calvin. On Sundays after church or during the week, she knew that Ethel, CC, Mildred or Gerry would plan for lunch at one of their favorite restaurants in High Point or Greensboro. Mary's son Maurice, better known to all as "Eric" was her big baby! Mary would always say, "take care of my son when I am gone." They would have their Mother and Son conversations, and yes would often agree to disagree. Eric being the respectful son, would melt Mary's heart by conceding with "ok Momma." Family celebrating Mary's blessed life and rejoicing in her home going include: her son and daughter-in-law Maurice and Marisa Williams of High Point, North Carolina and step mother: Lee Etta Worsley of Oak City, North Carolina. Also missing Mary's presence already are four sisters: Lossie Lee Carney of New Haven, Connecticut, Mary Worsley Gray, Lucy Worsley Frayer and Corliss Worsley all of Oak City, North Carolina, and three brothers: Calvin Worsley (Joyce Gorham) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Milton and Denise Baker of Long Island, New York, Vincent and Stephanie Baker of Baltimore, Maryland and Horace and Annie Andrews of Pamalee, North Carolina. Two brothers and sisters-in-law that preceded her in death: Clinton Louis Worsley and James and Melba Andrews. The Grand Children will have sweet, sweet memories: granddaughters: Jewel C. Funderburk, Joi A. Legrand and Samaria L. Williams; grandson: Sedricke M. Baker and Dennis C. Legrand that preceded her in death; great grandsons: Tevin Baker and Chris Baker; extended family: Aunt Ella Mae Worsley; a host of caring nieces, nephews and cousins. She had a very close friend that was dear to her: Phyllis Ross of Austin, Texas. Mary truly loved her Family! And we truly loved her! And so it is... Til We Meet On That Peaceful Shore!

A service honoring her life will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Temple Memorial Baptist Church; 1458 Cedrow Dr. High Point, NC. The visitation will begin at 12 noon and the service will follow at 1 pm. The interment will take place following the service at Guilford Memorial Park; 6000 Gate City Blvd. Greensboro, NC.
