Mary Fields Harris was the only child of Maceo and Daisy McIntyre Fields. She was born in Clio, SC on September 22, 1927. She moved to Winston Salem, NC at age nine where she received her education and attended Atkins High School. She lived in Winston Salem for many years before moving to Greensboro, NC. Mary passed on May 26, 2024.
She was a member of the St. Mark Baptist Church in Winston Salem until she moved to Greensboro and joined Metropolitan United Methodist Church and was a member of the 3M Ministry. She retired from Export Tobacco Company and worked at Hunters Publishing Co.
She was the wife of the late Samuel B. Harris, Sr. who preceded her in death along with her parents Maceo and Daisy Fields.
She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter: Vera W.(Terry) Dearman; one son: Samuel B. Harris, Jr. of Greensboro, NC; two grandsons: Darryl and Michael (Stefanie) Dearman of Greensboro, NC; one granddaughter: Deja (Shawn) Murray of Charlotte, NC; three great-grandsons: Jamal, Garren, and Tyler Dearman of Greensboro, NC; three great-granddaughters: Shae (Len) Smith of Manquin, VA, D'Andre Dearman of Greensboro, NC, and Ava Quinn Murray of Charlotte, NC; three great-great-grandsons: Landon and Jaxton Smith of Manquin Va and Zane Dearman of Greensboro, NC; a devoted cousin: Clara Yontz of Winston Salem, NC; a godson: Donald (Pauline) Taylor of Philadelphia, PA; a goddaughter: Sherry Wigfall of Winston Salem, NC; a special daughter: Deborah Williams of Buffalo, NY; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 12 pm at Metropolitan United Methodist Church 1701 E. Market Street Greensboro, North Carolina. The visitation will be at 11:30 am. Burial will be held at Piedmont Memorial Gardens 3663 Piedmont Memorial Drive in Winston Salem, NC.
