Mary W. Crutchfield, age 93, passed away peacefully at home Monday, June 1, 2020. She was born November 1, 1926 in Laurinburg, NC to Dannie Jane Vample and Peter Woodard. She married the love of her life, Freddie Huntly Cole at the age of 16, December 17, 1942. To this union, five children were born. Mary received her education in the Scotland County Public School System. After she nurtured and cared for her five children, she decided to go to Maco Beauty College and became a licensed Cosmetologist in 1971. She worked as a Silk Presser for many years but God afforded her the dream of becoming an entrepreneur right inside of her home on Willow Road…"Mary's Beauty Parlor". To God Be the Glory! Mary's life was a living example for many throughout Guilford County and wherever she traveled. Mother Crutchfield loved the Lord and pointed people to Christ 24/7. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and everyone she met. She was an avid "Fisherwoman" and would let everyone know that she could "out fish" Tink & Ruby. She was called by God into the ministry in 1950 and she served as Lead Pastor of the Gods Assembly Temple for many years in Greensboro. She often told the family…"No Matter What…Trust God". Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie H. Cole, her daughter, Rebecca Davis, two brothers, Vernell and Peter James Vample; and one granddaughter, Shantell Davis. Mary is survived by her three daughters, Ruby Jones, Patricia Gilchrist, Dorothy Lindsay (Bernard) and one son, Kenneth Cole (Wanza); Thirteen grandchildren, Angelette Willis (Charles), Keisha Canty (Michael), Sean Gilchrist, Prince Gilchrist, Woodrique Moering (Dudley), Shalijamon J. Gilchrist (Yolanda), Woodraille Gilchrist; Felicia Douglas, Patty Ann Shaw (John), Yashika Sowells; Rufus F. Davis, Frederick O. Davis; and Kendra Cole.; Thirty-Seven Great Grandchildren: Michael Canty, Jr., Devin Jones, Princess Williams, Countess Miller (Antonio), Prince Williams, Tamara Curry; Elimae Liberatore, Jacob Gilchrist, Princess Gilchrist, Shaleah Gilchrist, Kayland Harris, Shalijamon Gilchrist, Zahir Muhammad, Nomajil Gilchrist; Aziam Gilchrist, Asiah Muhammad; Joshua Gilchrist, Mystery Bonds, Kristyon Bonds, Faith Bonds, Emanuel Cole, Emanuil Cole; Jazmyn Shaw, Marquez Shaw, Alexis Shaw; Preston and India Sowells; Reshawntia Davis, Mirrah Davis; Ebony Davis, Justice Davis, Jonathon Davis, Noah Davis; LaShay Davis, Tyron Davis; Aaliyah Ballard and Gabrielle Ballard; Twenty-five Great Great Grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and touched deeply. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. A True Matriarch to our family!
