Mrs. Mary Lou Jones Bunch, our beloved mother, was blessed with life in Lewiston, NC on August 23, 1926 to the late James Jones and Luetta Horton and was called home on December 2, 2017. She spent most of her life in Portsmouth, Virginia and moved to Greensboro, NC in 1975 to be closer to her sister, Georgia Johnson. Mrs. Bunch worked at Moses Cone Hospital and The Women's Hospital of Greensboro for seventeen years in Labor and Delivery and volunteered to make baby hats for the newborns before retirement. She received various awards and praises including a plaque and three, Employee of the Month awards. After retirement, she continued to volunteer at The Women's Hospital for five years making amenity bags for new mothers while continuing to make baby hats at home for the newborns. Mrs. Bunch was a God-fearing woman who had been a faithful member of Saint Paul Baptist Church for 35 years, and was a primary Sunday school teacher for many of those years until her health failed in 2010. She was also in several other ministries such as the Spiritual Choir and the Missionary Circle. Mrs. Bunch was preceded in death by parents: James Jones and Luetta Horton, oldest son: Richard Bunch, Jr.; siblings: Arthur Jones, Jim Jones, Hazel Jones Boone, Aaron Jones, Allen Jones, Louise Jones and Ethel Jones. She is survived by children: William E. Bunch of San Diego, CA and Mary Bunch Chapman of Greensboro, NC; siblings: Georgia Johnson of Greensboro, NC, Rudolph Ruffin of New York, NY, and Emily Ruffin Cherry of Ahoskie, NC.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Bunch loved to give her testimony and sing her two favorite songs, "Jesus Woke Me Up This Morning", and "Trouble In My Way". Her favorite past-time was baking sour cream pound cakes. A service honoring her life will be held at Saint Paul Baptist Church; 1309 Larkin Street, Greensboro, NC, 27406 on Thursday, December 6, 2017. The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. The interment will take place following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N Ohenry Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27405.
