Mary Terry Bittle was born May 5, 1937 in Morven, North Carolina to the late Alexander Smith and Wincey Little. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by six (6) brothers and three (3) sisters. Mary graduated from Morven High School. She entered into holy matrimony with Oscar Bittle on May 17, 1955. While attending White Oak Grove Baptist Church in Morven, North Carolina she accepted Christ at an early age. Mary joined St. Philip A.M.E. Zion Church in Greensboro, North Carolina in the early 1960s where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. She was a faithful member of the Worthwhile Club for many years. She also served on other boards and clubs. Mary worked at Lanes Laundry for three (3) years, Griffin Bakery for five (5) years, and worked in the healthcare field for several years. She retired from Burlington Mills. Treasured memories will remain in the hearts of those who loved her, husband: Oscar Bittle; sons: Oscar Bittle, Jr. and James (Erica) Bittle both of Greensboro, North Carolina; sisters: Jannie Melton of Charlotte, North Carolina, Bettie Terry Coley of Greensboro, North Carolina, Glinnie Rorie of Connecticut, and Edna Grace Smith of Virginia; brothers: John Smith, Clayton Smith and Cornelius (Lent) Smith all of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren: Majasia Ward and James Bittle, Jr. both of Wilkesboro, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and three (3) very special friends: Willie Rae Young, Nannie Sturdivant and Ann Moore.
