After a lengthy illness, God's infinite wisdom called Marvin Roselle "Jackie" Dupree home on the morning of November 7, 2015, at the age of 72 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. Jackie, son of the late Willie Jasper and Dorothy Lee Dupree, was born in Wayne County, N.C., on January 20, 1943. He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle of Praise Ministry where he remained until his death. Jackie attended Springfield High School in Wilson County, N.C. He played junior varsity and varsity basketball. His educational journey took him to North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C., where he received a degree in accounting. On April 25, 1967, Jackie entered the Army at Fort Benning GA, he was a commissioned officer second lieutenant. Later promoted to the rank of first lieutenant and later ranked captain in the US Army Infantry. Jackie served in Germany and various states within the USA. He loved and always talked about his experiences in the military. He was honorably discharged from the Army as captain. While attending North Carolina Central University, Jackie met the love of his life, Naomi Williams, and was joined in holy matrimony on September 9, 1967, in Wildflecken, Germany. Jackie sang in serval groups, starting with "The Dupree Children" of St. Delight Church, Kenly, N.C. Later Jackie was part of an acappella quintet called the "MELDN Acappella Quintet" with Earl Glenn, Larry Peoples, Donald Graham and Nathaniel Branch. They released a 45 vinyl record with two songs; Old Ship of Zion and He's My Rock. Jackie worked in the automotive industry where he was one of the top salesman for years, later retiring from Van York Toyota in High Point, N.C. He spent countless hours doing what he loved most, watching sports. With the arrival of his two grandsons Steve and Cairo, Jackie loved babysitting, playing with them, singing to them and watching sports with them. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife Naomi (Greensboro) and daughter Maria Locklear (Greensboro); son-in-law Steve Locklear (Greensboro); two grandsons, Steve Locklear II, Cairo Locklear; three brothers, Willie Jr. (Shirley), Kenley, NC; Allan Douglas, NC and Donald, NC; three sisters, Doria Bell (Leonard), Austin, TX, Denise Dupree, Selma, NC, and Deborah Kafu, Raleigh, NC; two uncles, Louis Deans (Juanita), Greensboro, NC and Robert Deans (Mary Doris), Greensboro, NC; one aunt, Gloria Braswell (Charlie), Greensboro, NC, brothers-in-law, Maurice Jones, Brooklyn, NY, Thomas Williams (Vanessa), Newark, NJ, Cartha Williams, NC, Walter Murray (Cheryl), NC; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, godchildren, church family and friends.
