Brown, Jr., Senior PastorOfficiating~Reflections~Mrs. Marie Ellen Jessup Lewis was born February 17, 1935, to the late Reverend Samuel Fletcher and Maude Ellen Smith Jessup. After a lengthy courageous battle with cancer she went home peacefully with her Lord on February 28, 2012. There she was welcomed by seven (7) brothers and six (6) sisters who preceded her in death.Marie was born in the Chestnut Ridge Community of Surry County in North Carolina. She spent her childhood days there and attended church and school. After leaving that area, her family relocated to Guilford County where she attended school and graduated from Maco Beauty College and became a beautician.On August 7, 1951 she married the love of her life, Alexander Lewis, and to this union God blessed them with five (5) sons and one (1) beautiful daughter. Marie was always proud of her children and was a loving and caring mother to them. She joined the church at an early age and knew the Lord. Being the wife of a United States Army sergeant, their military travels took them to many states and cities in the United States as well as countries aboard. In all her travels she always kept connections with various churches and they all knew of her love for the Lord and gospel music. When their military life was complete, they decided to relocate back to their roots in Greensboro, North Carolina. They immediately joined the New Light Missionary Baptist Church in 1992, where her most beloved Pastor Dr. Cardes H. Brown and First Lady Diane P. Brown welcomed them. She served on the usher board and missionary department.Marie was a faithful and loving wife to Alexander Lewis for sixty (61) years. She was the proud loving and caring mother to her sons, Jeffry, Reginald, Michael, Kevin and Richard and to her daughter Linda (Carl Clark). She was a devoted grandmother to Terrell, Corey, Jameel, Jeffry, Jr.; and a great grandmother to Brooklyn, Adrianne and Jeffery, III. She was a loving sister-in-law to Darlene (Al Husher), Marie (David Rice), Louise Meredith and Carrie Jessup.Marie was a wonderful aunt to many nieces, nephews, great cousins and a loving friend to many who will miss her and will know that her love sustains us all forever.
