Margaret Carlton Warren, daughter of Henry and Mary Carlton, was born on September 20, 1936 in Warsaw, North Carolina. On Monday, May 6, 2019, she entered into eternal rest while surrounded by her loving family and friends. Margaret attended Douglass High School in Warsaw, North Carolina where she was an honor student, graduating as the Salutatorian of her class in 1954. She attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College now North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) where she was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She later attended the University of Maryland where she earned her Master of Science Degree in Clinical Psychiatric Nursing. Soon thereafter, she entered the world of higher education, joining the faculty of the School of Nursing at NC A&T State University in 1958. Her students admired her as a stern but caring professor who was devoted to her students and committed to excellence in academic pursuits. Margaret was admired for her professionalism and knowledge of nursing standards and requirements. In 1985, she was appointed to serve as Interim Dean of the School of Nursing at NC A&T. In that capacity, she was instrumental in improving the performance of senior nursing students on the State Board of Nursing Exam. In 1996, she was selected as Outstanding Teacher of the Year for the School of Nursing. Margaret was active in her profession and community and enjoyed working with others to accomplish important goals. She was a member of the Sigma Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority. She was a charter and life member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs (NANBPW) Inc., having joined the Greater Greensboro/Reidsville Club of the organization at its inception. She was Second Vice President of the club from 1991-1992 and First Vice President from 1994-1995. In 2004, she received the Bridge Builders Award from the Greensboro Club of NANBPW for excellence in health education and health care. Margaret was a deeply devoted member of Providence Baptist Church. For many years, she was very active in Providence's Community Service Guild and the Health Ministry. Throughout her adult life, she was a faithful, caring and attentive wife, mother and grandmother. No sacrifice was too great for her to make for her family and for those whom she mentored, guided and directed. Her family could always count on her for words of wisdom and words of encouragement about doing their best in school, at work and in life. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Leon Warren Sr. She and Leon shared a strong bond that sustained them throughout their forty-eight years of marriage. Margaret is survived by her son:, Leon Warren II and wife Camela S. Warren (Greensboro, NC), Franklin T. Warren and wife Lisa Y. Warren (Greensboro, NC); sister: Roberta C. Southerland, wife of Howard Southerland (Jacksonville, North Carolina); sister-in-la: Helen Sutton Carlton (Rocky Point, NC); grandchildren: Leon Warren III, Justin Warren, and Jaelin Warren. She also leaves a host of extended family, church members, club sisters, co-workers and friends that will forever cherish her memory. A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday May 11, 2019 at 10:30 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Both services will be held at Providence Baptist Church located at 1106 Tuscaloosa Street, Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Margaret C. Warren Nursing Scholarship can be made to the N.C. A&T Real Estate Foundation. Funeral Services have been entrusted to: Perry J. Brown Funeral Home
