Dawkins Officiating~ Obituary ~MARGARET ELOIS SHOFFNERMargaret Elois Shoffner, was born in Greensboro, NC to the late Ira B. Shoffner, Sr. and Leila Hairston Shoffner on August 14, 1926. She was the eldest girl and one of eight children. Margaretâ??s birth followed that of her two older brothers, Clarence Lorenzo Shoffner and James Alfred Shoffner. Upon the untimely death of our mother, â??Sister Margaretâ?? as she was affectionately called by her siblings, ruled the roost at home and made sure that the clan followed her orders.Margaret attended the Public Schools of Greensboro, NC and graduated from Dudley High School in 1943. She also matriculated at NC A & T State University, with a major in Home Economics. Her life skills and college training served her well, as she became widely known for her excellent culinary arts, which were enjoyed by all who knew her.She worked with many families either as a Governess, caring for the youngsters or as a homemaker, preparing scrumptious meals. Margaretâ??s talents were appreciated by the likes of â??Skipperâ?? Bowles and Dr. Thomas Hensonâ??s families, just to name a few.Ms. Shoffner was a member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority served as President for several years, traveling throughout the United States as an outstanding representative for this womenâ??s service organization. She was well respected as a person of fairness, integrity and high ideals.Our sister was preceded in death by brothers, Dr. Clarence Lorenzo Shoffner, of Weldon, NC; James Alfred Shoffner, of Wilmington, DE; sisters, Marian S. Thomas, RN of Durham, NC; and Anita Louise Shoffner, of Greensboro, NC. Her remaining siblings are brother, Ira B. Shoffner, Jr. of Sedalia, NC; sisters, Shirley Shoffner Mitchell, of Fresno, CA; E. Raye Shoffner Dawkins (Homer) of Greensboro, NC. Ms. Shoffner is also survived by sister-in-law, Carrie Shoffner; nephews, Jay Mitchell (Cynthia); Sean Dawkins (Roslyn); SSGT Kyle Dawkins (Melanie); nieces, Selia Shoffner, Annah Shoffner, Margaret Mitchell Green (Leslie) and a host of nieces and nephews.
