Obituary

Margaret Elaine Williams Austin was born on March 10th, 1951 in Lincolnton, North Carolina to Helen Logan Williams and Bennie L. Williams. As a daughter of the South, her love for her place of birth remained as strong in her heart as the charming accent she spoke with, for her entire life. Affectionately known as "Margo", she was educated in Greensboro, North Carolina and received a diploma from James B. Dudley High School. Margaret's belief in, and adherence to the love of Christ was best demonstrated in the compassion she had for those plagued with mental illness. A heart for the afflicted combined with the gift of patience made her God's perfect instrument for the care and nurture of those individuals who are often forgotten by the rest of us. Margaret's warmth and benevolence extended to the youth. She made a home for many children who otherwise would have remained in the care of institutions. These children often came from difficult and tragic situations, but found a home with her, to whom they referred to as "mother". Margaret provided the combination of tender affection, and iron will that is required to raise children in today's environment. There are few things that Margo enjoyed more than escaping to nature, and spending time boating, or relaxing along a quiet shoreline. Entertainment included watching a good Western drama – "Gunsmoke", "The Rifleman", or "The Lone Ranger" to name a few. A dog lover, her home was never lacking one or more of small, frisky and friendly pooches. In addition to "man's best friend", Margaret also had an extended circle of friends with whom she enjoyed lively conversation, although she was typically the one who already had the inside scoop on the latest news. Margaret made her transition on August 12th, 2020. She was preceded in death by her father Bennie Williams and brothers Eddie Dean Williams and James Ernest Williams and granddaughter Ava. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Helen Logan Williams, sister Marinda "Kaye" Cole; sons Tavaris "TJ" Austin, Gregory Fisher-Austin (Jacinta), Mark Fisher-Austin, Terry Austin, Dominique Austin, and Devontae Austin; daughters, Tina Austin and Jeniece "Destiny" Austin; nieces Yolanda Neal Jackson (Thomas), April Cole Murray (Quintin); special cousin Arthur "Tip" Williams and lifelong friend Connie Groves. Grandchildren Aidan, Isabelle, Bella, Leiyla, Ema, and Aliana and Macayla add to her legacy along with great nieces Alexis Jackson and Olivia Jackson and great nephew Quintin Cole Murray. Too numerous to name, Margo leaves behind a host of other relatives and treasured friends. A private graveside service honoring her life will be held Thursday September 10, 2020 at Lakeview Memorial Park.
