Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep sadness, the family of Marcia Damaris Thomas shares the news of her unexpected passing on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the age of 79.

Marcia lived life on her own terms, with independence, a vibrant spirit, and a fabulous sense of style. She loved nothing more than her children, Noni, Jamal, and Sharif, and her one-and only grandson, Novian.

Known by friends for her "sass," Marcia loved her people deeply and fiercely, and she brought that same passion to everything she cared about. She proudly represented her Boricua roots, her hometown of New York City (especially her beloved Knicks) and had an enduring love for salsa, music, dance, and the arts. Cooking was her love language, and she delighted in baking or preparing a favorite dish for family, friends, and colleagues, making sure the people in her life always knew they mattered. Her sudden passing has left those closest to her heartbroken, but grateful for a lifetime of memories, laughter, and for a woman who was unapologetically herself.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of her life on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Revolution Mill, 1000 Revolution Mill Drive, Greensboro, NC 27405.11:15 a.m. — Family Visitation12:00 p.m. — Memorial Service (Color Works Room 2)1:30 p.m. — Repast & Fellowship (Color Works Room 1)Guests are welcome to attend any portion of the celebration. Parking is available on site, and signs will direct guests to the Color Works space.

In honor of Marcia's vibrant spirit and fabulous style, guests are encouraged to wear bright colors rather than traditional mourning attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Puerto Rican Institute for the Development of the Arts (PRIDA) or Casa Azul of Greensboro, two organizations whose missions reflect Marcia's love of Puerto Rican and Latino arts and culture. The family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and kindness extended during this difficult time.
