Mrs. Mamie Hunt passed away Sunday November 10, 2019. Mamie Hunt was born on September 21, 1935 to the late Henry and Myrtle Whitfield Williams. In her words, "they were the best parents in the world". She attended school in Greensboro, NC and graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1953. Upon graduation, she enrolled at and attended A and T College now known as North Carolina A&T State University. As an active alumnus, she was crowned as Mrs. Dudley High School Queen in 1993. She exceded her competitors by raising the largest amount of money in the Dudley Alumni Association. While a student at A&T, she met Eugene Hunt. They were married in 1956 and were blessed with four children: Sharon Denise Hunt-Jones, Sheryl Diane Hunt, Eugene Hunt, Jr., and Jonathan D. Hunt. She spent 30 years working for Guilford County Health Department. In addition to working clinics, she also held classes to teach young mothers how to take care of their babies. It was a career that she enjoyed. As the president of Greenfield Community for six years, she got to know and to interact with her neighbors. Her hobbies included shopping (purchasing expensive bags among other things), bowling, and traveling by land and sea. She was fortunate to go on three cruises that she thoroughly enjoyed. She really liked the trip to Disney World and was fully fascinated with electronics. She belonged to Lucky 13 Card Club and played bid whist with others who also liked the game. Her spiritual life was not neglected during the years of her career and other interests. She was a member of Skeens Chapel Holiness Church for many years under the guidance of Sister Lewis before connecting with United Institutional Baptist Church. Many years were spent actively involved in ministry there under the pastoral care of Dr. Charles W. Anderson. Following the changes in her life, she became a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She participated with the Voices of Victory Choir and the Senior Adult Ministry as long as her health allowed. An African proverb says "It takes a village to raise a child." Well Mrs. Hunt said that it took a village to encourage her on her journey. Her village included Maggie Lash, the Lucky 13 Club Members, Jesse and Marion Givens, Nancy Adams, Corine and Richard Lyons, and David and Judy Hughes. Memories are left to her husband, Eugene Hunt, Sr.; daughters: Sharon Denise Hunt-Jones, Sheryl Diane Hunt; sons: Eugene Hunt, Jr., and Jonathan D. Hunt (Kimberly); grand-children: Pheneica Johnson (Troy), Austin Hunt, Dominique Hunt, Selina Hunt, Taylor Hunt, Cody Hunt and Jade Yancey; great Grand-children: Aiden Hunt and Kendall Hunt. Surviving siblings are a brother, Herman Williams of Detroit, Michigan; and a sister, Myrtle Williams Edwards. Among others who will miss her are the many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding her in death were sisters: Delilah Murchison, Henrietta Macklin, Iva Henry Williams, Lola Williams, Lila Williams and brother: Odell Williams. From Mrs. Hunt: "I give thanks to God that I had a good life." A service honoring her life will be held on Monday November 18, 2019 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church; 1301 Alamance Church Rd. Greensboro, NC. Visitation will begin at 10:30am with service following at 11am.
