Obituary

Maggie Lee Townsend was born on January 18, 1928 to the late George and Annie (Gentdraw) Townsend in Montgomery, Alabama. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her brothers, Arthur Townsend and George Townsend, Jr., and two of her children, James Arthur Townsend and Ella Ruth Daniel. Those left to cherish her memory are her youngest sibling, Annie Ruth Bowman, her sons Lee Charles Townsend and Michael Anthony (Myra) Townsend, grandsons Douglas Fitzgerald (Faye) Townsend, Frederick Earl (Showona) Daniel and Edward James Daniel, Xavier Charles Townsend, and Benjamin James Townsend, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of other family members and friends.Maggie was educated in the Macon County Public School System through the eighth grade when she went to work in the fields to help support the family. Maggie was then employed as a domestic worker in several different states to support her family until she retired.Maggie moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1997 and enjoyed retirement from that point on. While in North Carolina she enjoyed spending time with friends as a part of Senior Resources of Guilford County until her body forced her to take a break after having her leg amputated. After recovering from that major life changing surgery, Maggie became a member of Pace of the Triad and spent most weekdays at the senior center with her new and old friends. She enjoyed the games and relationships she established there. At her church, Word of Life Pentecostal Church of Christ, she served as a member of the Usher Board, the Senior Choir, and the Mothers' Board. She honorably held the position of Church Mother and Prayer Warrior. Maggie was kind and considerate and believed in sincerely saying thank you. She believed that being nice and considerate to others was the right thing to do. She knew that others didn't have to be nice to her and was grateful for their kindnesses. As a prayer warrior, she prayed at home and at church. Reading the Bible and word search puzzles were two of her favorite past-times. We are going to miss Maggie's smile, her sense of humor and the stylish and colorful hats that she wore every day. Early in the morning on Saturday, April 18, 2020, Maggie peacefully transitioned from this world into eternity. Now we can say "rest easy, Little Mama, for you have no more pain and no more suffering." We will miss you and take comfort in the fond memories of the many ways you touched our lives and shared the love of Christ.
